The Engineers hail from London and they're ready to show you what some beautiful organic music sounds like. Their blend of shoegazer-like hypnotic melodies will relax you after a long day's work. It's breathtaking really, and they rival M83 as the current cream of the crop in the shoegazing category despite this being their debut release.
The Engineers' is a term not to be taken lightly. Being an engineer myself, I was already curious what the sound would be like and to my surprise I was nothing short of amazed. This brit band not only captures the beauty of atmospheric dream pop but does it in a fashion that should appeal to all. The light vocals are simple yet capturing enough to flow with each song splendidly. The opening "Home" is a perfect example. Light acoustic guitar starts it off and then the chants of "Home! Is this my home?" take over. But it's light and its fluffy, getting you nice nestled in and ready to chill, relax, and curl up in a nice ball as you hibernate through the music.
It's here boys and girls, the new sound in shoegaze. And although it's not quite as heavy and loud as M83, it's a nice counter-attack and works very well. And if you're still looking for a loud burst of guitar noise, check out the final track on the Engineers' debut, "One in Seven." You'll be in for a surprise finish after so much glistening refreshment.
