It is difficult to really define what Orishas is. Their beats, deeply rooted in traditional Cuban "son" music compliment their rhythmic rapping in way that I have heard from very few other groups.
Appropriately the album starts off with drumming behind a chant that gives a very strong and distinct afro-cuban feel and does a great job in setting the tone for the rest of the album.
As far as the rest of the album is concerned, it is impressive from top to bottom. It's well put together, the songs flow great, and it is obvious that the group took great care in making each song. The beats are great and the rapping over top is solid. Everything seems to fit together great.
This is one of the best hip-hop albums I have heard in years. It is especially great to hear the tribute to the Buena Vista Social Club song "Chan Chan" with "537 C.U.B.A."
If you are looking for a solid hip-hop or afro-cuban album, then this is a must own.
