Orishas
Emigrante

Release Date: 06/11/2002

Score:

8.0
out of 10.0

With their second release, Orishas comes up a little short of where their fist album A Lo Cubana left off.

Orishas, now living in France, has added an element of European flavor to their Cuban rooted music. In some songs it works out pretty well like "Ausencia", in others, "¿Que Bola?" it doesn't really fit very well. I think that sums this album up pretty well. Several moments where they are extremely impressive are however countered with some subpar moments that leave me with a very flat feeling. Even with the influence of europop,Orishas' music is still deeply rooted in Cuban rhythms as demonstrated in "El Ray de la Pachacha" and "Asi Fue," probably the strongest songs on the album.

Overall, this album is strong, not quite as good as their first album but worth getting if you're a fan of world music or a big fan of this band.
