Shout-Out Louds
Howl Howl Gaff Gaff

Release Date: 05/24/05

Score:

7.0
out of 10.0

Howl! Gaff! It's the Shout-Out Louds! The next 'new' band to come out of Sweden isn't really that new. They've been around since 2001, and the Howl Howl album has seen release for over a year before its debut in North America, but hey, it's new to us.

What are they? Imagine a merging of new wave and modern indie rock in the like of the Concretes or even the Shins; this is the Shout-Out Louds. The Stockholm five-piece brings together a very delightful record which has the charm of any modern rock song you hear on the radio today -- keyboard synthesizers, loud guitar feedback, some neat horns and whistles, and a pleasant voice at the helm.

Where they falter really is that the album doesn't have the consistency to retain its value. The first half is fantastic, while the second half isn't more than average. Still, songs like "Comeback" and "Shut Your Eyes" are delicious.
