Kaiser Chiefs
Employment

Release Date: 03/15/05

Score:

8.0
out of 10.0

One of the best post-punk revival records of 2005 thus far, and also sports THE post-punk song of the year, "Modern Way" -- The Kaiser Chiefs rock it on their debut full length.

The UK band shows that power pop mixed with the post-punk formula can be a very, very good thing. Adding in electropop elments is a very good touch and while taking much influence from the late 70's, early 80's era of underground rock, they do show alot of appreciation for 60's Beach Boys pop. This comes apparent in songs like "You Can Have It All" and "Na Na Na Na Naaaa"

The made for single anthem "I Predict a Riot" is a fun, jumpy song that's exciting and interesting, while "The Modern Way" is a flat out killer song with nice electronic bubbly textures and a definite post-punk sound.

Employment is a very promising debut for the Leeds band and hopefully there are more good things ahead for the Kaiser Chiefs.
