The Washington DC duo Thievery Corporation has grown an increasingly larger crowd year by year and have yet another solid release on its hands to please the audience. The Cosmic Game continues the formula for success with its trip hop beats and the latin/indian riffs. It's a nice refreshing chillout experience to say the least.
One of the neat elements thrown into the mix this time around is the guest appearances by the Flaming Lips in the opener, "Marching the Hate Machine Into the Sun", Perry Farrell in "Revolution Solution", and Talking Heads' David Byrne on "The Heart's a Lonely Hunter." While the Flaming Lips appearance doesn't hit the absurd level, it does have a light fluffy sounding Wayne Coyne and a bit more organic rock feel to it, while still retaining the trip hop feel of Thievery Corp.
Perry Farrell's addition to "Revolution Solution" is more prolific. The trippy track features Farrell's vocals echoing and haunting the barebone spacey vibes and high hat strong beat. David Byrne's track is one of the most unique tracks on the record with a jungle/salsa feel to it, though it almost doesn't fit in completely with the rest of the album.
"Amerimacka" is one of the more promising tracks with its heavy bass line and reggae-style vocals. "Holographic Universe" is a nice more techno feeling track with lots of glitz and a downtempo feel to a worthy dance beat.
There's much to say and much to describe on Thievery Corporation's latest release, or their entire library for that matter. They bring in alot of variety from all over the world and dump it into a nice electronic format. It's nothing new for them, but it's still fresh as ever.
