Eels
Blinking Lights and Other Revelations

Release Date: MM/DD/YY

Mark Everett's sixth record under the guise Eels is a splendid acoustic/mellowdramatic wonder. Blinking Lights and Other Revelations is a 33 track double-disc that has song after song of indie pop goodness. The nitty gritty voice of Everett sounds like a younger Tom Waits perhaps, and even features Waits in one of the songs on the record. Other guests include R.E.M.'s Peter Buck, and The Lovin' Spoonful's John Sebastian.

"Going Fetal" is a very well crafted pop delight thats upscale and quick. It's one of those songs that counter much of the rest of the first and second disc, where the mood is slower and singer/songwriter moody. But Everett and his multi-instrumental talents creates a nice atmosphere on each and every song using the organ, acoustic guitar, and various synthesizer sounds. It's a aura of freshness perhaps, which is shown well on songs like "Theme for a Pretty Girl that Makes You Believe God Exists."

But freshness is something that is needed after listening to many of these songs. I'm not talking about it in a musical way. The songs are sombering and precise. They are emotional in a way that's harder to describe since the music is so fresh and so relaxing. It's like bedtime stories sung to you as you fall asleep. It's a nice ride through 33 songs and over 90 minutes of good tunes.
