Chapter 10: And the Cicadas sang

And then one night, it happened. The cicadas started to sing. And this could only mean one thing: summer is here. Horrible, horrible summer. And not just a summer, but a Japanese summer. Which is one of the most painful things in the world. Especially for me, who is not used to such weather. I’m from Seattle. Seattle summers are round about 30C, and dry as can be. The Japanese summer, is pushing 40C in August, and the humidity is through the roof. I don’t think I could live here without the AC. Seriously, I think I would just die.

At the moment, it’s not that hot. Maybe 33C. But what gets to you, is the humidity. The humidity is terrible. To the point where the moment I step outside, I feel like I need a shower right away. At the moment I’m taking 3 showers a day. I just can’t help it. I always feel sweaty and messy. Last night was the worst. I spent all day wandering around Tokyo with Naoko. All we did was walk around, and I don’t know if I’ve ever seen myself such a sweaty mess. It was terrible. For dinner we just went to an izakaya (Nice Japanese barish restaraunt type place) with a lovely AC, and ate ice cold soba noodles., and drank apple sours. Quite refreshing.

I quite like going to izakayas, especially just with Naoko. They are quiet, and we can be alone, have a nice chat, some tasty food, and a few drinks. They are especially nice in central Tokyo, where everything is so damn warm.

Oh and the new Polysics single has been released. It’s called “Electric Surfin, Go! Go!” and it basically rules.
